In a recent discussion, industry leaders from the mining sector evaluated their progress on sustainability, with varying self-assessments ranging from six to ten out of ten. The conversation highlighted the critical role of mining in the energy transition, providing essential minerals like lithium, yet noted the lack of sustainability targets among many small and medium-sized miners. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was discussed as a potential game-changer for localized supply chains, with hopes expressed for Brazilian inclusion. The challenges of geopolitical fragmentation and the need for premium pricing for green products were also addressed, alongside the importance of technology in improving environmental and production outcomes.
